Description

Let's start our tour at Garibaldi Square. We'll spend about 15 minutes getting to know each other and learning more about this place and the history of Nice, from protohistory to antiquity, through photographic, engraved, and painted illustrations. We'll then take our time exploring the winding and picturesque streets located closest to the Château hill, otherwise known as the 'Middle Town.' You'll learn, in simple and pictorial terms, about life in Nice during the Middle Ages, thanks to the engravings. Most of our discovery will be devoted to the main district of Old Nice: 'the lower town'. You'll learn about the role of the Savoy States in the city's history, the reasons for its rich ecclesiastical life, and the peculiarities of the Nice Baroque, with engravings and photos to support it. At the exit of the lower town district, we'll discover the last district together: 'new town'. You'll better understand why this recent part of Old Nice was built and see archival images of 19th-century tourists. We'll then take a few steps to return to the lower town and end our visit by discovering the Ponchettes terraces and the panorama that opens onto the Cours Saleya.
