Nice

Nice is the 5th largest town in France and considered the capital of the Riviera. Trendy but relaxed at the same time, its fun all the way, especially in the summer months.

For 2 weeks in February Nice hosts a lavish carnival, ending with an amazing fireworks works display and the famous Battle of the Flowers. With more galleries and museums than anywhere outside of Paris, Nice is a melting pot of activities.

Nice lies at the foot of Château hill, named after the castle which once stood there. After the walk down or the elevator if your still exhausted from the climb up. Be sure to stop on the Cours Saleya, the daily flower market is sight not to be missed and a excellent spot for a refreshing drink from one of the countless cafe's and restaurants that line each side of this Nice landmark.

A must see whilst in Nice is the Musee Matisse, located in the fashionable district of Cimiez. Matisse first came to Nice 1916 and lived in the city for many years before settling in hills above the city. The museum is open daily and has a fine collection of works to all to see.

One of the purest joys of Nice is wandering the streets and famous Promenade taking in the fantastic belle époque architure, stopping at any one of the numerous cafe's , enjoying a drink or perhaps trying the cities own cuisine, Socca, Chickpea pancakes baked in a pizza oven giving them a beautiful Italian flavour.

If you are in search of nighttime fun and games, head to the old town (vieux nice) once the flower stalls have closed down, the market comes to life as a mecca for alfresco diners and party people alike. Everywhere you turn in the old town you will find a dazzling choice of restaurants and bars to suit everyone.
