Galeries Lafayette is the french equivalent of London's Harrods, as you would expect every designer label is available. Unique gifts, household items and the gourmet food section is very special.
From Hugo Boss to Chanel, Galeries Lafayette has everything you could need for your luxury tailoring. 5 floors filled with everything one's heart desires from household furnishing to the gorgeous cafe on the top floor, a visit is well worth your time if your credit card can handle it.
Don't be fooled however, into thinking that Galeries Lafayette will only cater for the super rich, there are plenty of household brands available to everyone. Perhaps not in the extremely chic shoe department but there is an enormous swimwear department at very reasonable prices and a wonderful selection of accessories and fashion jewellery that would look great on anyone.
The household department on the 4th floor is wonderful and for anyone newly setting up resisdence in France it is a veritable treasure trove that anyone would be happy filling their home with.
The cafe has a prime view of Place Massena and a sublime menu. If you can find a table near a window you can easily while away a couple of hours just gazing out the window watching the world go by. And as the whole store is adequately air conditioned it provides a welcome break from the smouldering afternoon heat of Nice.
Galeries Lafayette has a great food court on the lower ground floor which is well stocked with local fresh produce as well as store cupboard items and a huge range of English products albeit at a much higher price than the UK but it's still nice to have it available if you really miss mint sauce with your lamb or porridge oats for breakfast!
