Between Nice and Monaco lies the beautiful St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where you can find the incredible gardens and Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. The Villa is the finest example of a listed belle epoque style building on the French Riviera and the collection of artwork contained within acquired by Baroness de Rothschild over the years is exceptional.
The 9 gardens at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild are open all year round and the plants contained within them reflect the seasonal changes so there is always something new to see blossoming at various throughout the year.
The Spanish, Florentine and Provencal gardens are especially good all year round and the Rose garden is exquisite between May and July. The smell is intoxicating and it is easy to see why the rose is one of the most beloved flowers in the world.
There is a free guidebook supplied in French, English, German and Italian to guide you through the house and gardens. Alternatively for children aged 7 - 12, they can follow a treasure hunt around the estate helping them to learn by solving clues and playing games. An excellent distraction for what could sometimes be a tedious visit for youngsters.
The Villa Ephrussi has a beautiful reataurant and tea rooms serving lunch from 1200 - 1500 and then afternoon teas from 1500 - 1900 in the summer, 1800 in the winter months. The tea room looks of over the stunning bay of Villefranche or you can sit outside under the orange trees and enjoy the sunshine. They offer a large choice of salads, tarts and quiches, croque monsieur, pastries, cakes and ice creams. 3 course menus from €18,50 with coffee or tea. Children's menu available for €9,50.
Throughout the summer the Villa and gardens are open from 10am to 7pm daily. Entrance costs €10 for Adults and €7,50 for concessions. However, combined with the Villa Kerylos it will only cost €15 to visit both for Adults and €10,70 for concessions.
