In the beautiful historic center of Nice, the Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur (Église du Gesù) provides a magnificent setting for an exceptional concert celebrating highlights from 400 years of Spanish guitar music. The program journeys through centuries of musical history, combining the expressive colors of the guitar with the grandeur of the organ, including Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and the Prelude No. 1 from The Well-Tempered Clavier. Spanish masterpieces such as Gaspar Sanz’s Canarios, Francisco Tárrega’s Recuerdos de la Alhambra, and Isaac Albéniz’s evocative Granada and Asturias showcase the rich traditions and virtuosity of the Spanish guitar. Works by Agustín Barrios and Antonio Vivaldi add lyrical depth and brilliant contrast.
